Before bringing a dog into your family, it is important for you to know how to properly take care of him. You need to provide for his need, both physical and emotional. This means providing nutritious food, clean drinking water, shelter, and the opportunity to live in a safe home.

It also means ensuring that the dog is happy by providing ample playtime, plenty of exercises, and stimulation for its mind.

Caring for a dog is such a big responsibility, and dog ownership is not something to take lightly. However, these tips will help you to successfully build a strong bond of love and trust with a valuable member of your family.

Dogs are more than just pets to us; they are our companions, friends, and give us hours of entertainment. They give us unconditional love, ask for nothing in return, but your love, and care for them.

When humans go through hard or stressful times, dogs give comfort and love. They cuddle up to you and make everyday problems seem not as important.

Keeping Your Dog Healthy And Happy

Keeping your dog healthy, starts with the food that they are consuming daily. Dogs need to have good source of protein, which is from animal products. Having the proper protein, allows your dog to digest it in a better manner.

Dog foods that have high amounts of corn gluten or soybean meal are things that the food owner should stay away from. Therefore, reading the labels will help you to make wise choices for your dog.

Proper exercise is also essential to maintain your dog’s health. Regular exercise will help to keep your dog fit and help prevent obesity. Always try to get your dog out for at least 30 minutes a day. Not only will it benefit your dog, but also you will get the bonus of exercise and time that is spent with you and your dog.

Bathing is necessary for your pet dogs to be clean; however, it should only be done once a month as frequent bathing can literally dry out your pet’s skin in the long run; thus, making it more susceptible to skin infections. Wiping your pet with a moist towel or washing its paws would be enough to keep it dirt-free in between bath intervals.

Grooming, on the other hand, should be done daily. At three months, your pet is physically prepared to receive proper grooming procedures. Always ensure that its fur is smooth and tangle-free through proper combing. Be gentle in brushing your pet’s coat to avoid any scratch on its skin.

Physical Activities

Some dog owners prefer their pets tied up most of the time. Bear in mind that pet dogs need physical activities such as running and walking to keep their bodies healthy and strong too. More than that, doing these physical exercises with your dog quenches their need for human attention and care.

Keeping dogs busy physically will also keep behavioral problems aside. During the summer season, do not force your pets to perform exercises with you especially when they are not in the mood to do so. Just let them stay in cool resting place. As they are more vulnerable to heat than humans.

Using Leash

All pet dogs should be in collars with tags holding their names, their owners’ names, and their addresses. In a case of loss, dogs can be quickly returned to their rightful owners with such information. Using a leash when taking your pets for a walk is one of the important dog care tips too as it will keep your dog safe from accidents.

Visiting Your Vet

Regular visit to your veterinarian for physical examination and vaccinations is one of the ideal dog care tips that would totally keep your pet in great shape. However, if such visit is unfeasible, you can personally check your dog’s body. You can start inspecting its ears, mouth, and teeth.

Check the pad of your pet’s feet for any injury, inspect closely its coat for any fleas and its dung for the presence of worms. Bring your pet to a veterinarian right away in case of flea and heartworm infestation.
