After spending three years focusing on his personal work, Los Angeles based fashion photographer Joseph Tran is ready to put himself out there again. Seven years ago Joseph started his photography career establishing relationships with all the major agencies in Los Angeles just doing paid and unpaid testing. From there it branched out to Miami, New York and Paris, for which clients he still has a good relationship with.

Inspired by the works of Peter Lindbergh, Richard Avedon, Paolo Roversi and more recently Terry Richardson, he focuses on bringing the best out of those he work with on a more human level, rather then a technical level. “It speaks volumes when you can bring out sides of
your subject that most other photographers can’t and won’t even think about,”
he says speaking of Richardson’s work. Another huge inspiration is award-winning Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar Wai’s work. “I love the way he creates mood and drama. He inspires me to step outside the box when I’m composing and shooting a story.”

After having done a lot of commercial work, some of it being printed in magazines such as Marie Claire and Elle, he wishes to dedicate 2010 solely on fashion editorials. He explains; “It’s a busy year ahead, and i hope to continue to grow and learn. My philosophy is that no matter how long you’ve been in the business, the minute you stop learning and evolving, it’s the moment you cease to grow and become stale.”

I personally love his work, and I’m very excited to feature it on the blog. Also, being presented in this collection of photos, is up and coming model Samantha Gradoville. She recently opened/closed for Prada during the Milan F/W10, and will soon be in several editorials for Vogue. So, two names to remember for the nearest future, fashion photographer Joseph Tran, and model Samatha Gradoville:

Herring & Herring has once again provided me with a killer editorial. Zink Magazine’s March issue features “Bound”, an editorial with models Damaris Lewis (Elite), Julia Goncharenko (Elite), Anais Pouliot (Trump), and Clara Settje (Trump). Herring & Herring is a collaboration between Russian art director Dimitri Scheblanov and Danish photographer Jesper Carlsen, and they have been working together ever since they met in New York 2008.

The collaboration between Russian art director Dimitri Scheblanov and Danish photographer Jesper Carlsen results in great fashion stories. They call their partnership Herring & Herring, and they have been working together ever since they met in New York 2008. In the upcoming issue of D Mode they have made the cover story Yesterday, which I just love. Not only is Ashley Smith the right model, but the concept and feel of the whole story is so good.

Designers Maayan Zilberman & Nikki Dekker’s The Lake & Stars new Spring/Summer lookbook was shot by New York based Tom Hines, a big hero of mine. His photography is mystic, sensual and often constrained into strong concepts. And the story for The Lake & Stars combines all of that.

Usually I write some useful info here, but this time I’ll just quote the brilliant info from Patrick’s website:

“Patrick Armstrong was born and raised in upstate New York. At the age of 14, Patrick began his first job working in a funeral home, giving him the idea that crime scene photography was something he wished to pursue. He soon discovered it was much more fun to travel the world and take pictures of pretty girls.”

Personally, I love his photography for its real and raw feel to it.

New York based fashion photographer and art director Carolina Palmgren has a great portfolio of work. In both art direction and photography actually. But in true Ben Trovato Blog spirit, we focus on the photography, which in this case is extremely good!

New York and Paris based fashion photographer Remi Rebillard is launching his new website this monday, and in that occasion he’s giving us a little preview of what’s in store for the new online portfolio. And judging from what he has sent me, the website will be filled with amazing photography. What I love with Remi’s photography is as in many other cases the colours and lighting, but his creative concepts are stunning.

In his final year of his BA in Photography at London College Of Fashion, London based Patrick Lindblom has a great future ahead of him. Patrick is Swedish, but he has travelled a lot, and has lived in cities such as Tokyo, Sydney and New York. His portfolio is fantastic, and his name definitely is put on the list of photographers I’ll keep a special eye on in the future.

Swiss fashion photographer Lucas Gatsas is currently in New York filling up his portfolio with amazing work. I’ve been fortunate enough to see some of his new work in high resolution, and most of it is just pure quality. Lucas is a great guy, and has the talent to become an amazing photographer. So keep an eye on him in the future, because there’s much more coming from him!

New York based fashion photographer Manolo Campion has worked with magazines such as Flair, Italian Elle, Nylon, Oyster, and Surface. His commercial clients include L’OrĂ©al, JCrew, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Burberry. Manolo studied at Art Center College of Design, and has got an incredible eye for image making. His portfolio exhibits diversity and quality a lot of photographers only can dream of producing. I am a big fan of his work.
