Paris based fashion photographer Cecy Young has been one of Ben Trovato’s favorite photographers since we launched in mid 2009. In fact, we featured some works from her portfolio in September that same year. Now, two and a half years later we are over the moon to present Cecy’s first story for Ben Trovato, Sóley.

The title comes from the star of the story, Icelandic model Sóley Sigurþórs. “When I first met Sóley I knew I had to photograph her!” Cecy says. “She first had her hair dyed orange and then she dyed it purple, it looked so pretty because it is was like a grayish purple and it went perfectly with her skin and personality. When I saw her hair like that I immediately asked her if I could take pictures of her.”

Cecy tells us that Sóley’s personality and auto stands out to the degree that the story idea had to be simple, and all about the model. “I already had the idea of a lake, and here in Paris there is a park in the south which is so beautiful and has a big lake in the middle. So we went there to take the pictures. I wanted to portray her sweet and innocent persona, and let the lake add the mystery to the story.”

The styling was done by Cecy and Sóley, and is atemporal and simple: “- it also has some particular finds like the coat, the all-pink look and the kitten dress,” Cecy explains, before adding: “- Most of the clothes are vintage finds and some clothes are Sóley’s from Iceland. She loves fashion and has a fashion blog in which she writes about her inspirations and her style.”

Makeup artist Eva Ronçay says she was focusing on getting Sóley’s natural beauty across, and then added some light and shine to make her skin look more doll like and a soft coral lipstick to create contrast with her purple her in the first look. “The second look is a bit stronger with plum lipstick and eyes lined with a soft gold/brown; I loved the contrast with her purple hair and the gold touches (eyes, nails and little stars), it makes it looks precious and mysterious,“ Eva says.
