Photography by Marco D’Amico
Italian Rome based Marco D’Amico (not to be confused with Chicago mobster Marco D’Amico) is a 34 year old sociology graduate, who just happened to fall in love with photography: “- I worked in communications and advertising for a while, and then I got stung by the photography bug. Thirty years is a ripe age to be going back to studying and I was so eager to learn that I devoured all the information I could find. The Internet is an infinite resource and the night is the best time to study.” The self taught photographer started out with music, and then later moving on to fashion, meeting a whole range of professionals in Italy and abroad along the way that shared advice to live by.
His work has now been published in several magazines including Vanity Fair Italy, Vogue.it, DModa, and Playboy Italy, and many album covers, especially in jazz music. He says his inspiration comes from cinema, and especially classic movies: “- In recent years I have tripled the attention to movies and video clips, analyzing ideas, lights and suggestions. Directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, as well as the great director of photography Vittorio Storaro, have been great inspiration with their point of view in creating the scene and using light. I love the building of the image, but always consider the snapshot as a frame of a longer and more dynamic history. I think my next step will be behind the video camera, even for a short movie.”
