Photography by Laura Makabresku
The amount of talent in the world can at times be overwhelming. And with this idea in mind, we here at Ben Trovato are pleased to introduce you to the work of the young and talented Laura Makabresku. She took up photography after receiving her first camera in high school as a method of expressing her thoughts, in addition to her love of writing. Currently residing in Cracow, Poland, Laura studies and works while simultaneously pursuing her passion. She says that Cracow, “is a place which inspires me subconsciously. It is an old Polish capitol and a very cultural place – I mean a city, where many many things that are concerning Polish literature and all kind of art started their life and lead it till today in old, narrow streets. Probably, it is the only city in Poland that I can live in, that I love and hate.”
Despite the love-hate relationship between Laura and her city, this hardly hinders her ability in capturing what she wants in a photograph. “I like to take photos of my own. I imagine fairy tales themes where there are lots of animals, and naked, long haired girls. I like to take portraits but they need to express sadness, contemplation, anxiety.”
I still struggle with fashion photos because every time when I try to take them clothes descends to a far.
Ironically enough, one of Laura’s biggest accomplishments is having her photo published in Italian Vogue’s segment “Photo of the Day.” Yet she says that her ultimate accomplishment is receiving the admiration and support from those around her, “I’m honored that my photos are being published in lots of art and fashion magazines. But the biggest accomplishment for me is the words of people who write to me that my photos discover and name the thoughts and images which they feel inside, which they understand, which touch them.”

I’m not one too fond of her work. She’s definitely skilled but it just does nothing for me.
September 24th, 2011@ Margrethe: Visit Flickr or DeviantART sometime soon and you might start feeling differently.

Bruno, i think that you’re jealous. She’s very young and has no experience, but takes beautiful photos. I watch her flickr and i can see how she to evolve.

@ A. Pawlowsky: Are you able of making an honest claim that this doesn’t resemble 90% of good work on Flickr? I don’t care how much experience she has as it’s absolutely irrelevant. I judged her work and fairly at that. It’s a personal opinion. You disagree? That’s too bad.

I still think that you’re jealous. I think so, because your photos are very weak and biased. Laura becomes better and better (you stand still in the same place). Once her pictures were also weak, but now they have great value. I understand that not everyone wants to follow through her fairytale-world. Everyone likes something different. So.. let’s finish this conversation. This leads nowhere.
People say that a good artist meets with criticism – so I can only congratulate Laura.

wowwwwww! some of the pictures makes me uncomfortable, so scary. Especially the one where the girl lookes like a corp in the woods. Yet so beautiful! The second to last picture and the one with the flowers is my favourite. Laura Makabresku is a rockstar on the go! More of her work to Ben Trovato please :)
September 26th, 2011Max SAYS:
The photos you make are, no doubt, very beautiful, but at the same time they are really creepy. Why can’t you take pictures of rainbows and unicorns instead of dead animals?
