Photography by Luc Braquet

Paris based Luc Braquet makes a living as an Art Director in an advertising agency, but plans a future of combining art direction and photography. He's been taking pictures since his childhood days, but it wasn't until in art school at the age of 19 that he really discovered his passion for it: "- Today, at the age of 25, I am obsessed with photography!"

His influences are quite varied, and he is always storing up visual inspiration: "- Photos, paintings, or films… I am naturally quite curious and always crave for more. "

Here's some of his work:

The Camera Club Launches

The Camera Club is a new community minded bar & gallery concept in Sydney dedicated to celebrating creativity through camera-based pursuits. The Camera Club is based within the Beach Road Hotel, Bondi Beach and is proudly supported by 42-Below. It opens this Thursday with a VIP launch party.

The Camera Club’s photo gallery delivers quarterly group exhibitions that are powered by the idea of ‘six degrees of separation’ and presented under a zero percent commission.

Every 3-months a curator is engaged to create a group show concept. In addition to theming the show they also select a photographer to participate & exhibit. This second photographer supplies their works and then selects another photographer to exhibit and so the process continues until there is a total of 10 exhibiting photographers. The end result is 10 micro galleries each of which is connected via the group show theme and the exhibiting photographers via six degrees of separation.

The first exhibition is called "We all have TEENAGE FANTASIES", and includes among others, the works of Emily Abay, that was featured on BTB back in May. Read more about The Camera Club and their first exhibition here.

Rest in peace Corinne Day, you will be missed

On Friday 27th of August, legendary fashion photographer Corinne Day passed away peacefully at home after an intensive battle with brain cancer.

Corinne was a self-taught photographer and her photos were often tagged sincere, poetic, unpretentious, delicate, intimate and tender. Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman states: "Corinne was a photographer of huge talent and integrity. Her work for British Vogue was entirely original and will always be remembered. She could capture raw beauty like few others."

Although Corinne Day was regularly commissioned by Vogue, we at BTB would like to pay tribute with the famous 'Third Summer of Love' photo shoot for The Face magazine which launched Kate Moss' career back in 1990.

Rest in peace Corinne Day..

Or any kind of fort will do. 60s and 70s playboy mags, old motorcycle films, Jim Morrison’s Poetry, long road trips with little cash, recklessness, total freedom to be myself, Guy Bourdin, long walks at 3am, my beautiful humble woman, activities that have no meaning, bad weather, complete confidence without cockiness, being with people who do before they think, Very Small Towns and Villages, just doing shit that’s out of the ordinary."

Photography by Guillaume Lechat

27-year-old Sydney based photographer Guillaume Lechat started working as a photographer at the age of 20, fresh out of school: "- Before that I was to shy. Even after that I was still shy but I started taking pictures anyways. And I've got this really bad memory so that's a good way to remember my life and people I met. My work is very autobiographical."

His work has been published in several respected publications, such as Oyster and Yen, but Guillaume doesn't do it for the money or the fame. "I don't work to be published, or for money. I work for myself. Even if my mum is proud when she sees my name in a magazine. She is pointing it and scream 'That's you! Here, that's my son!' That's always funny, but annoying in the same time."

When asking him about his inspirations, he continues: "- Well.. I will say dogs running on the beach. No. I don't know. It's just a feeling I think.. I like simple things (I'm a simple guy), no artifice, no pretend. I let things come naturally to me. I never try to force myself, I think If you force yourself, you are not as inspired as if something comes naturally. There is no name for the best inspiration, it's something you just feel. Also dogs running on the beach (naked dogs, no jackets…) and Justin Bieber because he has shiny hair."

At the moment he's doing a lot of work for Oyster, and is featured in the new issue with a big story about badass teenagers: "- They go back to a lost school, we shot this near Sydney. The place is crazy, imagine a huge abandon school from the 90s, trashed and lost. Some guys built a skate ramp in a classroom!

I'm also working on different personal projects. I like to be prolific, but not too much. I try to be really bored too, and it's hard, but when I become bored I start to think about what I really want to do and then i become productive. I suppose i just need to be bored and feel bad and then escape to the boredness with ideas and hope. It s all about balance."

Guillaume has worked in both LA and Paris, but is now enjoying life in Sydney: "- I live in this little wood house in a quiet street, I wake up with birds… Some of them are loud talkers but we are all friends."

Here's some of his work:

BTB news is here!

Another chapter in Ben Trovato Blog’s history unfolds. Having played an important role in the fashion photography business as a platform where talent is showcased and discovered, and where professional and aspiring photographers find inspiration, it is only natural that we take it to the next level.

There are a lot of exciting things happening on the fashion photography- and photography scene in general, and I believe BTB could grow to be a great platform where the most exciting news can be gathered on one site. So with BTB news we will be covering news relevant to the regular BTB reader, be that gallery openings, magazine launches, equipment updates, and other photography, art and fashion related topics.

With the news section comes a greater editorial responsibility. As a consequence Björn Van Poucke will join BTB and contribute in maintaining this ever-growing blog. Van Poucke is the guy behind the brilliant Banksy Street Art, and I believe he will be able to help BTB meet the growing expectations of the readers.

I hope you’ll enjoy this development, and please help spread the word.
